I have some new rattan xylophone and birch marimba mallets that are very nice, and I am just wondering how to care for them. What kind of environment do they need to be stored? Now they stay in my mallet bag in my house. I noticed the rattan beginning to warp a little bit. Is there a way to slow this warping process? And is there a way to reverse the warping? Thanks!
Ok, first off “Hardwood” is a class of woods of which Red Oak would be a member. Whereas trees in the pine family are classed as “Softwood”, between hard and soft wood I think strength is self explanatory. Rattan is a palm like plant that is commonly used to weave into 1 similar to wicker furniture, as one could imagine, it would have to be rather flexible to be used in this fashion, but it also has a high degree of tensile strength. So “strength” of the wood is a relative term dependent upon how you plan to use the wood.

Which type of wood is stronger and harder?
It’s a dark bark that adds flavor and imparts a deep red color to food as well. It’s mainly used in North Indian or Punjabi cuisine.
Not easy to find in the US, not sure about other countries outside India.
There are two types of wicker 1 available — natural and synthetic. Wicker requires a fair amount of maintenance to keep it in good shape. You should be OK but I would read up more in the link below.http://www.associatedcontent.com/article…
